If you don’t love Golden State Warriors center Andrew Bogut yet, you’re about to.
Speaking to reporters about Kevin Love missing Game 3 because of a concussion, Bogut offered the utmost support to his NBA Finals rival, per Brian Windhorst of ESPN.com:
“There’s probably people calling Kevin Love soft and those people are idiots,” Bogut said. “You don’t mess around with the brain.”
…
“You can be a hero now in the NBA Finals in 2016, and in 2021 you will be sucking food through a straw. And you won’t give a [expletive] about what you did in 2016.”
See, told you that you would love Bogut soon enough.
Beyond that, he has a point. Concussions aren’t something to be taken lightly, in any professional sport—or in life for that matter.
But, truthfully, this really wasn’t a situation that needed him to stand on his soapbox. Well, not entirely.
Love badly wanted to play. That’s a fact. The Cleveland Cavaliers couldn’t clear him. That’s a fact. So there is no reason for anyone to call Love soft. Literally no reason.
Only, this is 2016. And people can be stupid. So maybe some unwitting souls did call Kevin Love soft, in which case Bogut is right, they’re idiots.
