Miami Heat May Have Chris Bosh Shut It Down For Rest of Season

Miami Heat Chris Bosh 2016

Things are not looking great on the Chris Bosh front.

The Miami Heat big man is dealing with yet another blood clot issue, and according to The Vertical’s Adrian Wojnarowski, it could sideline him for the rest of the season:

Miami Heat All-Star forward Chris Bosh is under increasing pressure from physicians and the organization to sit out the rest of the season because of the potential dangers of a recurring medical condition, league sources told The Vertical.

After a blood clot in his calf moved to his lungs in 2015, Bosh missed the final 30 games of the season. He took blood thinners for several months following the 2015 clotting.

Bosh has a meeting planned with Heat officials, including team owner Mickey Arison and president Pat Riley, in the next 24 hours to move closer to a final determination on his status, league sources said.

Bosh’s long-term health is the priority here. The Heat are known as a first-class organization, and it would make sense that they’re pushing for Bosh to take additional time off and get right, even if it hinders their chances of making a deep playoff run. He has three years left on his deal, and the Heat will need him to be productive during that time. They also need to use him as a selling point for prospective free agents, and that only works if he’s as healthy as possible.

Besides, the Heat are in a position where they can push forward without Bosh for now. Luol Deng is playing out of his mind and Josh McRoberts looks a lot better. They can split time at the 4 and replace much of Bosh’s floor spacing. Miami is also 3-1 outside of the All-Star break and just put up one hell of a fight without Bosh against the Golden State Warriors on Wednesday night.

Regardless, no matter what it does to the Heat for the rest of this season, the important thing is that Bosh gets right off the court. On the court stuff can wait.
