Report: Suns Interested In Steve Nash As Head Coach

Steve Nash As Head Coach

With Jeff Hornacek being released earlier today, the Suns coaching gig is wide open. There’s really no rush in filling it, as the Suns don’t appear to have any clear direction. But one name that has emerged already is…Steve Nash.

The Suns are reportedly interested in having Steve Nash as Head Coach. And, as we’ve seen in recent years, having coaching experience is only a nice-to-have, not a requirement. Jason Kidd as an example has parlayed a star point guard floor general into a bench general awfully quick.

However, there appears to be one problem with this scenario for the Suns: Nash has zero interest in the job.

Sources told ESPN that Suns owner Robert Sarver, even before firing Jeff Hornacek early Monday morning after the team’s overnight arrival in Phoenix following a four-game road trip, has had Nash high on his list of potential targets to take over the team.

But Nash, sources say, is not ready to entertain the thought of a head-coaching position or even an assistant coach’s role at this juncture, preferring to focus on fatherhood (he has three young children) and his various off-court interests in addition to a part-time consulting role he took on at the start of the season with the Golden State Warriors.
