Ty Lawson, controversial Instagram commenter, is at it again.
Lawson posted an Instagram photo of himself, as he is wont to do. Some, or at least one, commenters began taking totally unrelated shots at him, as Instagram commenters are wont to do. Lawson then responded to one comment, as he is semi-wont to do. And in said comment, he openly criticized Denver Nuggets president Josh Kroenke and general manager Tim Connelly.

This, for the record, isn’t the first time Lawson’s comment-section antics have been headline-worthy. Back in April, before he was traded to the Houston Rockets, Lawson sent virtual dap to a fan on Instagram who wanted him to join the Dallas Mavericks, telling him that, essentially, there was nothing he would rather do.

To be sure, this is a messy situation. There seems to have been bad blood brewing between these two parties for some time, perhaps ever since the Nuggets parted ways with George Karl and started picking apart and changing and destroying what was a 57-win team.
But Lawson hasn’t made things easier on the Nuggets. Not even slightly. He was arrested twice in less than six months for driving under the influence, and his trade value plummeted as result.
The trade to the Rockets should mark a fresh start for both parties. The Nuggets are already moving on, ushering in the Emmanuel Mudiay era at point guard, while handing extensions to two key players in Danilo Gallinari and Wilson Chandler, and Lawson has the chance to play for his first real championship contender, alongside two superstars in James Harden and Dwight Howard. He too has the opportunity to put the past behind him, off court issues and all.
Even if, on some or many levels, Lawson is right, keeping his mouth shut is the smart play. Digging up old skeletons doesn’t do anything except make him look petty, as if he cannot let go of a fractured relationship that he, in all honesty, helped create.
More than this comment is easily at play. Lawson is, more likely than not, pissed about what Kroenke told Yahoo Sports’ Marc J. Spears in July; he recounted times that Lawson’s breath reeked of alcohol at practices. There’s no way Lawson doesn’t resent Kroenke’s candor to some extent. And on top of that, further complicating matters, we’ll probably never know the whole story of what happened between Lawson and the Nuggets.
Hopefully, though, this is the last we’ll hear of Lawson needlessly putting his image at additional risk.
