Watch: Rondo Out With Two Facial Fractures

rondofaceOn Saturday, the Mavericks were in Orlando taking on the Magic when Rajon Rondo was inadvertently kneed in the face by teammate Richard Jefferson less than two minutes into the game. It was enough to draw blood and for Rondo to exit the game and not return. As result of that blow, Rondo suffered two fractured in his face: one orbital and one nasal.

Rondo will be out at least three games as recovers from this injury. The Mavericks released the following statement this morning:

Rajon Rondo suffered an orbital fracture to his left eye as well as a nasal fracture during the game at Orlando on Saturday, January 31. His status will be updated later this week as more information is available.

Rondo will not travel with the team this week to Golden State and Sacramento while undergoing additional testing and evaluation

Then this afternoon ESPN provided additional details and quotes from teammates:

Rondo’s status will be officially updated later this week, but teammates are prepared to be without the Mavs’ starting point guard for an extended period of time.

“Hopefully, he has a quick and speedy recovery,” Jefferson said. “Luckily we have the All-Star break not far away, so hopefully that will give him some more time to get right. He’s a tough guy.”
