University of Memphis head coach Josh Pastner has been one of the nation’s top recruiters since taking over for John Calipari back in 2010.
He has regularly reeled in top flight recruiting classes that have included star NCAA players like Will Barton, Tarik Black, and Joe Johnson in recent years.
This upcoming season is no different as 4 star recruits Austin Nichols and Kuran Iverson will join an already outstanding core of players like Chris Crawford, Geron Johnson, Joe Johnson, and Shaq Goodwin.
Top 10 NCAA Recruiting Classes For 2013-2014
Iverson, the 6’10 multi-talented incoming freshman who is a distant relative to former NBA superstars Allen Iverson and Marcus Camby, is undoubtedly their best pro prospect, as he has drawn comparisons to former LA Lakers and Clippers star Lamar Odom.
Iverson and Nichols were supposed to offset the loss of Adonis Thomas, who made the ill advised decision to leave school early and went undrafted and Tarik Black, who has transferred to the University of Kansas for his senior season.
But the team will be without the services of Iverson for the season opener as he has been suspended by the NCAA for playing in two separate Summer leagues near his hometown of Hartford, Connecticut this Summer.
Memphis self reported the violation after learning of Iverson’s infraction and were initially unaware of the violation until recently.
Iverson will be suspended for the Tigers opening night game on November 14th against Austin Peay and is eligible on November 18th when Memphis plays in a nationally televised game against the Top 10 ranked Oklahoma State Cowboys on ESPN.
