The day has finally come for Brian Shaw. It was nothing short of a kick in the gut when he was passed over by the Lakers for Mike Brown, leaving Shaw with no option but to take an assistant role with another team: Indiana.
After two seasons working on Frank Vogel’s staff, Shaw has finally earned a starting gig, with the Denver Nuggets. Denver is one of the more exciting teams in the league, so he’s headed to a great situation.
Indiana Pacers assistant Brian Shaw confirmed in a text message to USA TODAY Sports that he has an agreement to become the Denver Nuggets head coach.
Shaw has been on the short-list of assistant coaching candidates who were seen as head coaching material for years now, but it had begun to look like he’d miss out on this sort of opportunity yet again after the Los Angeles Clippers decided to, in essence, trade for Boston Celtics coach Doc Rivers on Sunday. Shaw was a leading candidate for that position, just as he had been for the Brooklyn Nets job as well.
