It has become very apparent over the last few months that the Philadelphia 76ers are the team of the future in the eastern conference and maybe the NBA with two superstars under the age of 25 and a talented roster around them.
Combine that with the fact that they will have a king’s ransom of cap space this summer and you can see why they have become a rumored destination for LeBron James in free agency.
Although LeBron and Ben Simmons have similar games and are far from a natural fit alongside one another, the idea of LeBron teaming up with Simmons and Embiid is terrifying to the rest of the NBA.
Behind the scenes the 76ers confidence is starting to grow that they can sign LeBron James as well…
“I now fully understand why whispers about the Philadelphia 76ers and their growing behind-the-scenes confidence that they can woo LeBron to Philly this summer are getting louder.”
The eastern conference is wide open this postseason and the current iteration of the 76ers have as good of a shot as anyone to come out of the east and make the franchise’s first NBA Finals appearance since 2001.
This 76ers situation feels similar to the opportunity he had to join the Miami Heat in free agency in 2010 and the opportunity to team up with a young stud in Kyrie Irving and use assets to acquire an All-Star power forward in Kevin Love in 2014.
LeBron also shares an agent with Ben Simmons (Rich Paul and Klutch Sports, which LeBron partially owns) and he clearly has an affinity and mentorship relationship with Simmons already.
Unless some other unknown opportunity presents itself for LeBron in Cleveland or elsewhere this summer, I would go as far to say that the 76ers are the favorites to land King James this summer.
