Antetokounmpo Says Doctors Tell Him His Knee Needs More Rest

Antetokounmpo

This has been a rough NBA season for injuries. Numerous stars young and old are currently on the shelf with injuries from Kristaps Porzingis to Kawhi Leonard.

In addition to that, there are always other stars who are pretty banged up by this time of the season with the wear and tear of the NBA schedule, being the face of the franchise and attempting to carry their team, one of those stars is Giannis Antetokounmpo.

He has missed a few games to rest his knee and doctors have now told him that he essentially needs to rest it more because of overuse.

This is what he told a reporter from Euro Hoops TV:

“Eurohoops TV: What do the doctors say?

Antetokounmpo: The problem is that I play too much.

Eurohoops TV: It’s not another issue, right?

Antetokounmpo: No, it’s just that I have to rest more. This summer I had no time to rest. After the playoffs I went straight to the gym. I went to see Kostas and practiced for about a week and a half with him. I didn’t have any rest, and that’s how, um … the situation deteriorated. After this season I will have time to rest.”

This seems to be an issue for many of the league’s biggest stars and most hard-working players, as with players and medicine advancing so much that the level of competitiveness and taking care of your body with intensive exercise and diet may be leading to some players not allowing their bodies to recover for long enough after a grueling season.

It appears the Greek Freak is learning this lesson now, hopefully he can maintain relative health the remainder of this season and have a chance to heal himself this off-season in order to be prepared for the grind moving forward in his career.
