Superstar free agents with foresight would be wise to consider signing with the Denver Nuggets. They were basically a playoff team last season and are one transcendent player away from making a small ruckus in the Western Conference. But they’re also young and flexible enough to be juggernauts three, four, five years down the line. So if you’re someone looking to try outlasting the windows of the Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers without joining what is, as of now, a slightly irrelevant squad, Denver may be the place for you.
Enter Blake Griffin and Paul Millsap.
The Nuggets plan to pursue both of them in free agency, even though they’ve been linked to a Kevin Love trade, according to ESPN.com’s Chris Haynes and Marc Stein:
Sources say the Nuggets, meanwhile, have made upgrading at power forward one of their offseason priorities, which is why they covet Love.
Denver, according to sources, also hopes to crash the list of suitors for Los Angeles Clippers unrestricted free agent Blake Griffin and Atlanta Hawks unrestricted free agent Paul Millsap.?
Both Griffin and Millsap would be fantastic offensive fits next to Nikola Jokic. Millsap, however, is the better fit overall, since he can tackle the frontcourt defensive assignments Jokic (and Griffin) cannot. At the same time, Griffin is only 28, compared to the 32-year-old Millsap. Though he’s dealt with injuries, there’s a strong chance the end of his next contract proves more valuable than that of Millsap.
Granted, the Nuggets won’t be too choosy. They just need another star to pair with Jokic, period. If they can get either of these guys, or even someone like Kyle Lowry, to take their money, they’ll probably pounce at the opportunity—without coming to regret it later.
