Derek Fisher Had Championship Rings Stolen From Home

According to the highly regarded and well-respected news outlet (sarcasm) TMZ, a robbery occurred in former Los Angeles Lakers point guard and New York Knicks head coach Derek Fisher’s home Monday morning.

Fisher told police that $300,000 and his five NBA championship rings were stolen in the robbery.

Here is an excerpt from the TMZ story:

“Law enforcement sources tell us the NBA legend reported a burglary at his home Monday morning — telling police he left the home at 7:30 AM and when he returned 3 hours later, it was clear someone had been inside.

We’re told officials believe the perp got into the house through a side door — and went for his jewelry. Among the stolen goods was Fisher’s 5 NBA rings he won during his run with the Lakers. They’re each worth a ton of cash.

Our sources say other jewelry was taken as well.”

Yikes. That is got to be a difficult blow for someone to deal with, not only losing that much money, but also the reminder of reaching the pinnacle of his profession.

Fisher’s name has been in the new quite a bit lately as he has detailed how difficult it was to coach under Phil Jackson’s watchful eye, how unprepared he was for the role of being head coach of the New York Knicks without any coaching experience and basically why he still did a better job than current coach Jeff Hornacek is doing.

“We were able to take a team that wasn’t as talented as the team they have now, and we were much better and much further along than this group is that they have now, because the foundation was being laid,” Fisher said. “That’s different than just trying to coach basketball — and it takes longer. That’s the part that you can’t measure in wins and losses, either. That’s what we were doing the best at.”

Fisher was 46-90 in a year and half as the Knicks coach.

After an enchanted and incredibly successful NBA career, it seems as though things have seemed to be on a downturn for Fisher for a little while now.

Here’s to hoping the assailant in the robbery is foolish enough to try and peddle Fisher’s rings on the open market in the near future.
