Warriors Will Take Dirk Nowitzki Off Mavs’ Hands If They Don’t Want Him

Dirk Nowitzki
After losing Game 7 of the NBA Finals to the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Golden State Warriors have officially lost their minds.

By going full Daryl Morey.

According to Tim Kawakami of the Mercury News, the Warriors plan to be super aggressive this offseason. Which is fine. And that’s led them to “circle” Dirk Nowitzki’s name as a potential free agent option. Which is cute.

Per Kawakami:

his is why the Warriors want Dirk Nowitzki.

Did I surprise you with that name? I was surprised when I heard that a run for Nowitzki was bouncing around the Warriors’ thought process recently, but it makes sense.

Joe Lacob and Bob Myers’ Warriors are going to be aggressive–we always know they’re going to be aggressive.

But if you know Lacob, Myers and the entire makeup of this management group, the Game 7 loss to Cleveland on Sunday absolutely flipped the turbo switch.

“We will be very aggressive,” one Warriors executive said late Sunday night when asked about the team’s approach in
the coming movement period. “Very, very aggressive.”

Quite clearly, the Warriors aren’t expected to sign Nowitzki, nor are they making him their No. 1 priority. That would be weird. And stupid. He isn’t leaving Dallas.

If he does leave Dallas, though, it’ll be to chase a second championship ring. And that means Golden State, on the long-shot, never-gonna-happen scale, is a good fit.

The Warriors, after all, may need a Mo Speights replacement.
