Ben Simmons has been the presumptive number one pick in the 2016 NBA Draft all season long, but recent events seemed to put question around that. First, the Sixers held a private workout for Duke’s Brandon Ingram, with the thought being he fits in better with the Sixers right away.
Secondly, there were reports circulating that did not want the Sixers to draft him, because he didn’t want to play for them. That’s certainly understandable and wouldn’t be the first time a player (not just in the NBA) has told the team with the top pick that he wasn’t interested.
But despite all of that, it appears that Simmons will indeed be the top pick. The Sixers have reportedly informed him of their intentions.
The Philadelphia 76ers have informed Ben Simmons that they will select him with the No. 1 pick in Thursday’s NBA draft.
The team worked Simmons out privately on Tuesday, the first and only workout Simmons has done leading up to the draft. This was after the LSU star met with the team last week in Cleveland, where Simmons had been working out.
Simmons’ Instagram post also seems to suggest this:
