After game 2 of the Finals, Klay Thompson mentioned in the post-game presser that the Golden State Warriors would beat the Showtime Lakers. Klay said that with a smile because his father Mychal Thompson, a former #1 overall pick, played with the Showtime Lakers and was a part of their championship runs.
Naturally, the elder Thompson was asked about his son’s remarks and he surprisingly agrees with his son. Granted, he’s talking about his son, but this is somewhat surprising, given how defensive older players are when talking about today’s game.
Thompson: “I admit this. We would shoot. And we shot 8 threes a game. They make 8 threes a quarter. Golden State would outscore us 50 to 15 on threes. So how are we supposed to win? So I agree with Klay, I think they would beat us. We couldn’t keep up with them offensively because of the way they can score so quickly.”
But despite all of that, Magic Johnson disagrees with Klay and dad.
I disagree with Mychal Thompson and his son Klay, my "Showtime" Lakers would beat the Warriors.
