The Serge Ibaka for Victor Oladipo deal with a head-scratcher for many reasons. It was said that Ibaka was unhappy with his role and this move was made with the intentions of retaining Kevin Durant’s services. But there’s one problem: this deal doesn’t exactly make the Thunder better. You can argue it makes them worse.
With the loss of Ibaka, you’re loosing a very valuable rim protector and rebounder. And you’re picking a solid combo guard in Oladipo. But there’s Dion Waiters, who fills that spot for the Thunder. Clearly, something has to give with the Oladipo – Waiters dynamic and that may be Waiters. He’s a restricted free agent and it looks like OKC may just let him walk.
The Philadelphia 76ers and Sacramento Kings have interest in Oklahoma City Thunder restricted free agent Dion Waiters, per league sources.
