It sounds like Luke Walton is already over the Golden State Warriors’ NBA Finals implosion against the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Having your dream job lined up can have that effect.
The Los Angeles Lakers officially introduced Walton, who spent the last two seasons as an assistant coach with the Warriors, as their next head honcho. And it sounds like he’s excited:

Byron Scott is so jealous right now.
Walton is walking into a much better situation than he ever did. D’Angelo Russell will presumably be partnered with Brandon Ingram (No. 2 pick) and Jordan Clarkson (restricted free agent), giving the Lakers a nice foundation upon which they can build.
General manager Mitch Kupchak can also create two max-contract slots ahead of free agency. And with Kobe Bryant gone, plus a solid young foundation in place, the Lakers are a fairly attractive landing spot this year.
All of which contributes to Walton’s excitement.
We’re just not sure how long it will take for this flexibility/promise/excitement to translate into winning.
