Milwaukee Bucks Working on Contract Extension for Jason Kidd

Jason Kidd and the Milwaukee Bucks apparently won’t be saying goodbye to one another anytime soon.

According to Yahoo Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski, Milwaukee is working on a contract extension for Kidd, who is entering the last season of his current deal:

Zanik’s hiring is another in a sequence of significant franchise moves that co-owners Wesley Edens and Marc Lasry have made since the $550 million purchase of the Bucks in 2014. The Bucks hired Jason Kidd as coach, and are working with the city and state to move into a new downtown arena.

The Bucks are moving toward a contract extension with Kidd as coach, league sources said.

Kidd’s imminent extension isn’t too surprising. The Bucks have a losing record through his first two seasons at the helm, but he coached them to a playoff berth in 2014-15 and has shown an ability to connect with one of the most promising rosters in the NBA.

His decision to use Giannis Antetokounmpo, who stands nearly 7’0″ tall, as a point guard was gutsy and just plain smart. Unlike his time with the Brooklyn Nets, he hasn’t been afraid to shake things up in a good way.

And pretty much all of the Bucks’ core pieces have made great strides under Kidd to boot. Khris Middleton, John Henson, Antetokounmpo and Jabari Parker have all improved since entering the NBA/arriving in Milwaukee/under Kidd’s tutelage.

How much of that has to do with Kidd remains to be seen. But, as the Bucks try ushering in a new era with him at helm long term, it looks like we’re about to find out.
