Tyronn Lue seems to still be finding his way as head coach of the Cavs. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, since the Cavs pretty much led the East wire to wire this year and have clinched the top spot. He’s still tinkering with his lineup and is about to make a somewhat bold move as the team heads into the playoffs.
On Saturday night, Lue started Tristan Thompson at center in place of Timofey Mozgov, and the rookie head coach says he’ll stick with that as the playoffs roll in.
Cavaliers coach Tyronn Lue said he is making Tristan Thompson the Cavs’ starting center for the foreseeable future — including to start the playoffs — before his team’s game against the Atlanta Hawks on Monday.
Lue previously swapped Thompson in for Timofey Mozgov in the starting lineup in the Cavs’ 105-102 loss to the Chicago Bulls on Saturday.
When asked for his motivation behind the move, Lue said: “I just wanted to.”
Tristan Thompson is more active than Mozgov, but he was their spark off the bench. Tristan seemed to excel in that roll, but perhaps this will allow their offense to get started quicker as Thompson creates many second-chance opportunities.
