Losing to the Los Angeles Clippers on Monday night did little to curb the sarcastic streak of Dallas Mavericks head coach Rick Carlisle.
During the Clippers’ 109-90 shellacking of the Mavericks, DeAndre Jordan exploded for 23 points, 20 rebounds, two steals and two blocks. And if you remember, the Mavericks were a broken verbal pact away from landing Jordan in free agency last summer.
Do you remember that? Because Carlisle sure does.
Per Tim MacMahon of ESPN.com:
Rick Carlisle after DeAndre Jordan's 23-point, 20-rebound night: "Now you know why we wanted him."

Perfect.
It hasn’t been long enough for the Mavericks to look back upon their failed bid at Jordan without experiencing pangs of regret. They have maintained their Western Conference playoff status, but they still need someone like him to contend for more than a top-five seed.
At the same time, cracking jokes is part of moving on. And while the Mavericks most certainly wish they could have poached Jordan out of Los Angeles, Carlisle isn’t harping. He’s just being Carlisle—stating the obvious in a way that pleasantly takes us off our guard.
