Kevin Durant isn’t oblivious to how ridiculously good at basketball Russell Westbrook is.
Westbrook went for 25 points, 11 rebounds, 20 assists, two steals and one block in the Oklahoma City Thunder’s 120-108 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers on Wednesday night. Durant, like the rest of us, was impressed.
From Anthony Slater of The Oklahoman:
With two minutes left, he found Steven Adams for an emphatic dunk and his career-high 19th assist. A possession later, he pinpointed a lob to Andre Roberson for the NBA’s first regulation 20-assist game this season, earning a loud ovation and early seat on the bench as Mitch McGary and the bench mob checked into the game.
But that’s not all. Westbrook also added 25 points and 11 rebounds, making him the first player with at least 25, 20 and 11 since Magic Johnson in 1988.
“Oh,” Westbrook said. “I was born in 1988.”
“NBA 2K,” Durant said of Westbrook’s stat-line. “On rookie (mode). Words can’t even describe it because it looks so smooth and effortless.”
Perfectly stated.
Westbrook really is an aberration on the hardwood. He has an endless supply of energy and collects historical stat lines like trading cards. That he’s an actual human being and not an alien is difficult to believe.
You know what, actually? I don’t believe it. Westbrook is definitely an alien.
To wit: The last player, per Basketball-Reference, to average at least 20 points, seven rebounds, 10 assists and two steals per game?
No one.
There is only Westbrook.
