Suddenly, the Los Angeles Lakers’ decision to sign Lou Williams over the summer all makes sense.
Kind of.
Well, not really.
But Williams is giving us straws at which to grasp. So that’s something.
A Twitter user asked the Lakers guard if he would be recruiting DeMar DeRozan, a former teammate from Williams’ one season with the Toronto Raptors, to come play for the Lakers, who will have the flexibility necessary to open up two max-contract slots over the offseason.
Williams’ answer was, predictably, mysterious (h/t HoopsHype):

There ya go. The Lakers clearly signed Lou Williams, a ball-dominant scorer they really didn’t need, so that he could become a pivotal part of their DeRozan pitch in 2016. It’s perfect. Genius. Infallible.
The Lakers will need a Kobe Bryant replacement, and why invest in restricted free agent Jordan Clarkson or bank on one of Williams and Nick Young when you can throw $20-plus million annually at DeRozan, who, like Kobe, has managed to carve out an All-Star resume despite being incapable of knocking down threes?
