Rockets GM Daryl Morey Calls Warriors an ‘All-Time’ Team

Daryl Morey has more respect for the Golden State Warriors than Doc Rivers.

I kid, I kid. Just not about Morey’s respect for the reigning champs. That’s real.

While appearing on The Doug Gottlieb Show on CBS Radio (h/t Larry Brown Sports), the Houston Rockets general manager said nothing but good things about the NBA’s only undefeated team. Most notably, he dispelled the notion that luck had anything to do with their title run:

“The Golden State Warriors were not lucky to win the title. They were the best team last year. They are the best team this year so far. They’re just an unbelievable team. Obviously you can always point to any champion and say ‘maybe this could have gone different or that could have gone different,’ and you can erase every championship.”

That’s a very, very good point.

But Morey wasn’t done.

Per the Bay Area News Group’s Diamon Leung:

You’re not going to catch any arguments to the contrary here. The Warriors, these Warriors, are freaking special. They might even be better than last year’s team, which was historically special as well.

Through eight games, the Warriors have outscored their opponents by a total of 142 points. That, according to Basketball-Reference, is the third-highest point differential through the season’s first eight contests in league history, and it’s been done just once this side of 1971-72.

That’s absurd.

Then again, the Warriors are collectively absurd. Their spacing is unparalleled, their ball movement unreal, their commitment to speed on both ends of the floor unprecedented.

When all is said and done, not only will the Warriors likely be hoisting up another Larry O’Brien Trophy, but they’ll do so as perhaps the best team the NBA has ever seen.
