With Scott Brooks out the picture, the OKC Thunder have apparently set their sights on the college ranks for their next head coach. Florida’s Billy Donovan and UConn’s Kevin Ollie top the list.
Per ESPN, OKC has engaged in formal talks with Donovan. Of course, this isn’t Donovan’s first go-’round with the NBA. He accepted the Orlando job, before changing his mind some years back.
But is OKC really an attractive job now? With Kevin Durant’s free agency next summer, and Russell Westbrook’s the year after, it’s not out of the realm of possibility that the Thunder could be one of the worst teams in the league in a few years.
Sources told ESPN.com that Donovan and Thunder general manager Sam Presti have opened a dialogue about the position, which became available a week ago after the dismissal of Scott Brooks…
Donovan is the first known candidate to talk with the Thunder about the job. It was not immediately clear how many other candidates, if any, Presti plans to sit down with.
