Not sure why this took so long. Mike D’Antoni unceremoniously quit as Lakers coach on April 30, and nearly three full months later, they’ve finally offered someone the job. That someone is Byron Scott, who has been the reported frontrunner for a while now.
Even though Kobe is on his way out, he publicly endorsed Scott as the new coach and the two were actually Laker teammates during Kobe’s rookie season.
The Los Angeles Lakers have offered their head coaching job to Byron Scott, according to league sources.
The two sides are now in negotiations on a contract.
The Lakers made Scott a verbal offer on Thursday after Scott spoke with owner Jim Buss. Scott and his representatives are now in the process of reviewing the Lakers’ offer.
