I didn’t know apologizing involves bashing other people?
On Monday night, Los Angeles Clippers owner (for now) Mr. Donald Sterling sat down with Anderson Cooper of CNN to talk about the racially driven tape scandal that took the NBA and world by storm.
It seemed like through the entire interview, NBA hall of famer Magic Johnson was the main topic of discussion. Mr.Sterling talked about Johnson’s HIV battle and and thinks that he doesn’t help the black people in America. To make a long interview short, he pretty much brought up Johnson’s past mistakes and thinks that he doesn’t give back to his community. Really? What does Magic Johnson have anything to do with Mr.Sterling apologizing to America for his sickening racist comments. As a matter of fact this interview pretty much showed that he is a racist!
Mr.Sterling shared with Mr. Cooper that the reason why he did the interview in the first place was because he wanted to apologize.
“I’m not a racist, I made a terrible, terrible mistake. And I’m here with you today to apologize and to ask for forgiveness for all the people that I’ve hurt.”
So you would think that Sterling would just apologize and not put his foot in his mouth right? Nope! He then went on to dig up Johnson’s past that lead to his HIV battle.
“Well, what kind of a guy goes to every city, has sex with every girl, then he catches HIV? Is that someone we want to respect and tell our kids about?” Sterling asked. “I think he should be ashamed of himself. I think he should go into the background. But what does he do for the black people? He doesn’t do anything.”
I think I speak for most of America, when I say Mr.Sterling needs to look at himself in the mirror before he goes bringing up anybody’s past trials!
Just because he said he was sorry it doesn’t mean his problem is just going to disappear. The damage has already been done, and Mr.Sterling is banned from the NBA. It’s one thing to apologize, but Mr.Sterling’s comments about minorities is pierced in the hearts of many.
