Over the weekend, in an attempt to pump up the Tornto crowd before the Raptors hosted the Brooklyn Nets, Raptors GM Masai Ujiri grabbed the mic at a pep rally filled with Raptors fans and yelled “F*** Brooklyn.” As you can imagine, that was well received by the crowd.
At first, NBA league offices were quiet on the matter, then stated that Ujiri would not be fined because the comments were made at a pep rally, not a league sanctioned press conference. However, Adam Silver has changed his mind and Ujiri has been fined $25,000. Regardless, of where it happened, it’s interesting that Ujiri thought that would be a good idea
The NBA announced Monday that Raptors GM Masai Ujiri has been fined $25,000 for cursing Brooklyn prior to Game 1 of a playoff series against the Nets on Saturday.
The announcement comes hours after reports indicated that Ujiri would escape with a warning.
