If you remember, last year around this time(November 20th to be exact) half of the NBA was tweeting in amazement about a 5’10 Division III player from Grinnell College that went on a scoring binge, setting the all time NCAA scoring mark for a game.
Of course, we are referring to Jack Taylor, who broke not only the DIII record but DI mark as well by scoring a whopping 138 points in a single game.
Taylor has a sweet shooting stroke, that’s never come into question, but in his record breaking outing last season he took an astounding 71 three point shots, mostly through double and triple teams. Some analysts were quick to point out that footage looked like a video game where a player gets hot and would come down the floor and continuously shoot the rock, even though 2 or 3 teammates were left wide open.
Well if you like ridiculous scoring games, guess what……..Jack is back. And in Grinnell College’s first 2 games of the season he has dropped 71 points in the opener followed by another masterful 109 point game over the weekend.
Math wasn’t my major but that comes out to a ridiculous 90 ppg average on the season. Take that Kevin Durant.
A quick look at the boxscore and Taylor went an astounding 52-101 from the field, including 27-71 from behind the arc. To make the performance even more legendary, he scored the 109 points in only 29 minutes, at an average of scoring 3.5 points per minute.
Want an even more ridiculous stat? Taylor dropped 53 points in only 9 minutes of action in the 2nd half alone, when he rested for the Pioneers’ upcoming 3rd game of the season.
In the video he seems to not want to play much defense and continuously cherry picks the opposing team down the floor, doing his best Ray Allen impersonation while running the baseline and coming off seemingly endless screens for three.
My arm would be sore from continuously putting up those 3 goggles……
