Back in May of last year, THD was one of the first to bring you the initial installation of Pepsi Max’s new basketball themed commercials, starring Cleveland Cavaliers guard Kyrie Irving.
Irving dressed up in prosthetic make-up, stars as”Uncle Drew”, an aging hoop star who decides to school a number of today’s younger ballers on playgrounds across America.
The spot was so popular it spurned a sequel just a few months later, where fellow All Star Kevin Love of the Timberwolves joins Drew, as senior citizen hoopster”Wes”, as the two again surprise some youngsters, showing up a throng of youngsters on the asphalt. The spot also featured a cameo of NBA legend Bill Russell, with Irving hinting at “getting the team back together.”
Fast forward a year later, and Irving is again starring in and directing Chapter 3 of the “Uncle Drew” Pepsi Max commercial spots, this one also featuring Nuggets guard Nate Robinson as “Lights” Jenkins, former Drew teammate turned jazz musician.
Drew heads out to a “Lights” Jenkins show to convince the former sharpshooter to help get the team back together but is initially thwarted by his sister Betty Lou Jenkins, played by WNBA MVP Maya Moore.
“Lights” starts out rusty until Drew gives him a little inspiration before the two begin hooking up for numerous alley-oops and streetball type maneuvers.
But to the surprise of everyone watching, Betty Lou Jenkins then takes offense to some heckles from the crowd, and promptly begins taking it to em, sinking shots from all over the court, even dunking in the final scene.
Who will be the next NBA star to join Drew’s crew?
