Earlier today, it was announced that Doris Burke will be joining ESPN’s NBA Countdown studio team. Hours later, Magic Johnson announces he is leaving ESPN.
I’m sure the two events are completely unrelated, but it’s interesting that they’d both be announced on the same day.
Magic has his hands in just about everything, so it’s a wonder he even found time to cover the NBA. He is citing lack of time as the reason he’s leaving, which is believable. I’m going to miss him completely dismissing any and everything Bill Simmons says.
Magic’s statement, per ESPN:
“I love ESPN. Unfortunately, due to the nature of my schedule and other commitments, I don’t feel confident that I can continue to devote the time needed to thrive in my role. I will always feel a strong connection to the ESPN family and I enjoyed working with them very much.”
