This is an interesting time for Nets coach Jason Kidd. As of last week, it has become known that he will own a piece of the franchise in which he’s coaching. To make things even more awkward, he’ll have his jersey retired by the time, while he’s a coach. Are these two firsts?
Jason Kidd will have his jersey retired by the Nets before the team’s Oct. 17 preseason game against the Miami Heat, the team said Monday.
The Nets could have waited until Kidd made his regular-season coaching debut to raise his No. 5 into Barclays Center’s rafters, but that date has been clouded by a looming suspension for his 2012 drunken-driving arrest in Water Mill, NY. Kidd, who entered an interim guilty plea in July after being named Nets coach, hasn’t been reprimanded by the league yet. Former Sacramento Kings coach Eric Musselman was docked two regular-season games following his 2006 arrest on drunken-driving charges.
