Lakers Hire Kurt Rambis as Assistant Coach

Last season, Kurt Rambis was an NBA analyst for ESPN. During his time there, Rambis spent a considerable amount of time criticizing how Mike D’Antoni went about coaching the Lakers.

Now, to make things interesting, the Lakers hired Rambis as an assistant coach. Rambis obviously has ties to the Lakers and has coaching experience so this news makes you wonder. Is the writing on the wall for D’Antoni or is there nothing to this? At the very least, it’s something to keep an eye on this season.

You have to think, though, if the Lakers struggle in the first half (which is very plausible), how much rope does D’Antoni have?

On Monday, the Los Angeles Lakers announced the hiring of Kurt Rambis and Johnny Davis to Mike D’Antoni’s coaching staff. With the recent announcement of Mark Madsen and Larry Lewis as player development coaches, the Lakers’ coaching staff now consists of five assistants. Dan D’Antoni, Mike’s brother and roommate, is the only returning staff member.
