Clippers Sign Darren Collison to Backup Chris Paul

The Clippers were probably the deepest team in the league last year and it doesn’t appear as if that will change. They were forced to trade Eric Bledsoe last week, because they weren’t able to afford him, but they didn’t waste time finding a backup for Chris Paul.

Darren Collison will back up CP3. Collison has been a starter for a fair amount of his NBA career, so he should fill in admirably in the event Paul goes down. Ironically, Collison was Paul’s backup in New Orleans too.

Darren Collison has agreed to a deal with the Los Angeles Clippers, a person close to the situation confirmed to USA TODAY Sports.

Collison’s deal is for two years, with a player option in the second and the salary in his first season $1.9 million. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because the deal can’t be formalized until the free agency moratorium lifts on July 10.
