The NBA’s salary cap is largely determined by how profitable the league is, or basketball related income; a term we heard constantly during the lockout.
The league was anticipating a bump in cap space, but it won’t be as high as many would’ve like. While the league made money, it wasn’t as much as projected. At the end of the day, this probably won’t have a huge impact on the free agency period, but it’s something to keep an eye on.
Hearing early projections given to GMs and owners in May have NBA salary cap rising to just $58.5 mil next season. This season: $58.044 mil. The projection was $60 mil.
