What qualifies and disqualifies a guy from being an NBA coach continues to be a mystery. I continue to harken back to Patrick Ewing’s decade+ quest to become an NBA head coach, and he is currently not even an assistant.
The Phoenix Suns coaching gig was vacant up until yesterday, when they hired former Sun, Jeff Hornacek. Hornacek has been an assistant with the Utah Jazz, but is headed back to Arizona. I guess guys like Ewing and Brian Shaw will have to continue to wait their turn. Either way, congrats to Jeff.
Hornacek, one of the Suns’ most popular former players, agreed to terms on a three-year deal for slightly less than $6 million with a team option for a fourth season, according to a person with knowledge of the deal. Contract details are expected to be finalized by Tuesday.
