Amar’e Stoudemire’s first year in New York proved that he was worth that $100M the team gave him. But from his second year one, he hasn’t come near living up to expectations thanks to injuries. But after his first season in NY, the team traded for Carmelo Anthony and that was supposed to be a potent 1 – 2, inside-outside punch. But Amar’e’s injuries prevented that from happening.
In the playoffs, we saw a lack of offensive firepower manifest itself for the Knicks, as Melo was the only scorer. According to sources, he would like the Knicks to add another scorer. Keep in mind the Knicks have very little cap flexibility, and again, that’s why Amar’e was brought in.
According to a source, Anthony has told a confidant he is concerned management will stand pat this offseason and said he believes the team needs to add a bona fide secondary scorer for the Knicks to take the next step and win a championship.
The source said Anthony loves combo guard Iman Shumpert, 22, and projects him as a superstar, but not for two seasons. The source also said Anthony privately wishes the club will add a significant piece to the roster and not be status quo.
