If you thought the Miami Heat were the only team “resting” players in preparation for the playoffs, guess again. Whereas something like this was unheard of in the 90s, it has become commonplace for certain teams.
The Boston Celtics are no stranger to this phenomenon either. The Heat and Celtics will face off on Friday which probably was anticipated as a meaningful, late-season game between the two foes, but it will be anything but. Pierce and Garnett will not play, and you can all but rest assured that James and Wade won’t either.
The Boston Celtics have kicked off “Strategic Rest: The South Beach edition” with the C’s decision to sit Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce for Friday night’s game against the Miami Heat.
Both players traveled with the team for Friday’s game, but team officials say that both will not suit up.
It is unclear if one or both will see action on Saturday at Orlando.
