Typically, whenever a restricted free agent signs an offer sheet with another squad, he’s just posturing for more money from the incumbent team. But when he actually says that he’d rather play for the team in which he signed the offer sheet for, that’s an entirely different situation.
Last summer, that was the exact situation with Eric Gordon of the Hornets, who was heavily pursued by the Phoenix Suns. Gordon hasn’t really panned out in NOLA, due to injuries (and perhaps unhappiness), and he recently got into a shouting match with coach Monty Williams. The Hornets reportedly will look to move Gordon this summer. Perhaps they should’ve let him walk last year.
The Hornets were unable to pull off a trade involving Gordon before the February trade deadline, but the franchise is still likely to remain open to trading him after this season ends, according to sources Saturday.
