A rapper and a baller, YP hails from Chicago’s east side. After his mixtapes Still Awake and No Doz hit the scene, it’s clear that YP has been ballin’ since he was “knee high.” He says “growing up playing basketball in Chicago–it’s tough. It’s aggressive.” But that didn’t keep YP from striving to improve his ball game while simultaneously perfecting his rhythm and wordplay, and he was inspired in both aspects by Derrick Rose. YP says he admires D Rose because of his perseverance and his success. “To see somebody who’s from a lot of the similar situations that I’ve seen make it and to be on top, that just motivates me to keep going.”
And keep going he does—armed with the new Adidas D Rose 3. YP’s love of the shoe spans a variety of criteria, from the grip of its sole to the support of the memory foam ankle collar to the colors of his favorite pair (gray, with a red, black, and white emblazoned “Chicago,” under the tongue). “The D Rose 3 rises above every other basketball shoe out there,” he says–much like its namesake, both YP and D Rose rise above any adversity that comes their way.
