Video: UNC Freshman JP Tokoto’s Insane Dunk Workout

September 24, 2012 – Allen Moll

To the average recreation league basketball player, dunking a basketball is the ultimate in personal achievement considering we all have day jobs to focus on.  But to NBA pros and aspiring collegiate dunk artists, highlight reel facials and rim rattling jams have always been a staple of their games that we love and admire.

Some say it’s genetics while others work long and hard to develop the muscle, skill, and agility needed to regularly dunk on opponents in games.  I can still remember jumping off of a picnic table as a youngster at the local playground for my first dunk attempt.

This season, NCAA incoming  freshman JP Tokoto will undoubtedly follow in the footsteps of highlight reel dunking wing men Michael Jordan, Jerry Stackhouse, and Vince Carter at UNC as one of the elite dunkers in the country.  Be sure to watch as many ACC games as possible as Tokoto is sure to be a SportsCenter highlight regular.

Tokoto is a consensus Top 100 rated recruit hailing from Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin and joins fellow highly touted newcomers PF Brice Johnson, C Joel James, and #1 ranked PG prospect Marcus Paige on the Tarheels roster.  The newcomers along with the returning Dexter Strickland, Leslie McDonald, James McAdoo, and PJ Hairston will attempt to offset the loss of 4 players that left for the NBA after last season.

JP’s dunk artistry is so far off the charts good that he even beat out noted high riser Shaquille Johnson in a National HS Dunk Contest by finishing off a 360 Reverse Eastbay.
