It’s amazing when you think of it how quickly we come to associate a player with his jersey number. Especially the league’s stars. We even give them monikers that are associated with their jersey numbers. Think KB24, CP3, CB4, etc. etc. But even without a moniker, who isn’t familiar with the great #23 as the most glaring example.
Well basketball fans, especially in Phoenix, have come to affiliate Steve Nash with the number 13. But given the legacy left before him in Los Angeles with that number, Wilt Chamberlain, Nash is moving on to a new number. The OC Register had this news on the matter:
With Steve Nash’s familiar No. 13 retired in Wilt Chamberlain’s honor by the Lakers, Nash has decided he will wear No. 10 in purple and gold for the coming season.
Just like all the great soccer playmakers who’ve come before him and showcased that number on the pitch.
it’s a fitting choice for Nash, a soccer fanatic and the Lakers’ new point guard, as he comes to center the Lakers’ offense, which struggled late in the season to get the ball to proven scorers Kobe Bryant, Andrew Bynum and Pau Gasol in easy positions to do damage.
