Every summer the World Basketball Festival events draws massive amounts of crowds and with the three locations this year, there will be city-specific sets with two pairs of kicks being inspired by each of the cities the WBF will take place in totaling six pairs of sneakers all together. You’ve possibly seen a few camera phone images and if that is the case then you heard pretty wild guesses as to the inspiration on of these pairs but take a look after the jump for all the official info on the ‘World Basketball Festival’ pack from Jordan Brand.
The July 7th stop at Las Vegas, Nevada will be the first of the Festival. Inspiration for these two sneakers comes from early Vegas performers who primarily wore black jackets with satin linings as well were known to wear white dress shirts with red ties. Las Vegas has also served as the training location for Team USA this year.
Next when the WBF hits the nation’s capital of Washington D.C. on July 14th, another Air Jordan I and Super.Fly will drop. This time the inspiration comes from the “dress blues” uniform a decorated officer would wear which is shown thru details like gold laces, mostly blue uppers, and multicolored squares which are suppose to imitate badges are prominently seen on both pairs.
Lastly, with Barcelona, Spain being the only international stop the AJKO and Super.Fly will pay homage to one of the greatest teams in sports history in the form of the 1996 USA Basketball team. The ‘Dream Team’ pairs are done in colorways inspired by a famous Spanish bullfighter painting. Instead of a regular Air Jordan I, the Barcelona pack will feature the slightly different AJKO which made its return again earlier in this year.
The inspiration for this set has not only been very well thought out but well executed as well. Each City Pack releases on the day that the World Basketball Festival rolls into the corresponding city.
