During the summer, Lamar Odom was in New York to attend a funeral and if you remember while he was there, he was in a car accident that claimed the life of the other party involved. Then when he was dealt to Dallas, it was too much for him to handle.
In the midst of one of his worst slumps in his 13-year career, Lamar Odom revealed to ESPN.com that he came ‘real close’ to walking away from the game of basketball for a season, maybe longer.
Odom has been dealing with some personal issues in the last half of 2011. His 24-year-old cousin was murdered in July, and a car Odom was riding in struck and killed a teen pedestrian after a collision with a motorcycle.
Odom said his wife, Khloe Kardashian, convinced him not to walk away from the game he loves.
“My wife talked me out of it,” Odom said. “Cause I was asking myself: ‘Was i mentally prepared to play? If I didn’t play well, was I mentally prepared to help the team?’ I had a thought ‘Maybe I need a year.’
“Because of the lockout, I thought, ‘Maybe somebody’s sending me a sign that I need this time off.’ But when I told some friends and my family that I was thinking about steppin’ back for a minute, I think the reaction from the closest people to me kind of gave me the energy to get back at it.
