Flip Sauders Thinks John Wall Played Too Many Summer League Games

Sure, those summer league games were interesting from a fan perspective but I’m sure it drove the respective teams crazy. Not only is there a great risk of injury but the style of play is a complete 180 from structured, organized NBA play. Wiz coach Flip Saunders wasn’t a fan, especially since they’re 1-8.

Remember all those carefree summer-league games John Wall starred in while the NBA lockout lingered? Flip Saunders does. Turns out the Wizards coach is not the world’s biggest fan.

In the land of highlight thrills, basic basketball flies out the window, fundamentals become warped. Seems clear why this brand of ball would be taboo to a coach.

“I’ve never been a proponent of all those things,” Saunders said after Monday’s practice. “I think you pick up too many bad habits and a lot of things you think are going to be very easy [are not]. I don’t think I saw a change all summer long.”
