December 14, 2011 – The Hoop Doctors
At the conclusion of last season, it was widely speculated that Nene would not return to Denver. But with half of their roster (Kenyon Martin, Wilson Chandler and J.R. Smith) in China, management was surely eager to retain guys.
The Nuggets’ sigh of relief cost $67 million. Denver is bringing back Nene, the free agent who looked to be out the door, a source said late Tuesday night.
Nene agreed to a five-year deal for up to $67 million, bolstering the Nuggets’ frontcourt for the next half-decade.
Nene had considered heading to New Jersey, Houston and Indiana, but in the end, he stayed in the city he began his career, back in 2002.
