ESPN just reported that the Chris Paul trade to the Lakers is now officially dead. The deal was nixed by NBA League Commissioner David Stern. How can he do that you might be asking? Because the NBA are the current owners of the New Orleans Hornets. So in this very strange and unique case, David Stern is able to make the final call on any deal for the New Orleans Hornets. And in this case, he’s not nixing the deal as a league representative, he’s not accepting the deal as an NBA owner.
No deal can officially be done until tomorrow anyhow, so this was close, but looks to be dead for now unless Stern has a change of heart. Sorry Lakers Nation. But to look on the bright side, Knicks fans once again have something to pray for…
