After the lockout ended, most free agents and traded players haven’t had time to get situated in their new cities before the shotgun start of the season. We thought we would help out with suggestions on what to leave behind in self storage so they’re not dragged down by extra baggage.
Glen Davis – Celebratory 2009 Poster
Remember that time Davis hit the game-winning shot in Game 4 of the 2009 conference semifinals to beat the Magic and then pushed a kid? If Davis has that one shining moment captured as a poster or video of his game-winning shot and shove, he should probably leave those back in Boston.
Baron Davis – Junk food
Davis would eat himself out of the league if GMs would let him. Instead, they keep signing one of the league’s notorious underachievers, hoping new scenery will motivate Davis to return to his 2007 form when he knocked the Mavs out of the playoffs in the first round. The Clippers were the team that put stock in Davis last offseason, and he rewarded them by ballooning up to 260 pounds.
Delonte West – His Rolodex
If the Mavs and Heat both make it back to the NBA Finals in 2012, LeBron James will have some extra motivation when he sees his old teammate Delonte West on the other sideline. Remember, West supposedly knocked boots with Bron Bron’s momma when the two were teammates in Cleveland. Probably best if West loses Gloria James’ number.
Josh Howard – His stash
What a marvelous fit Josh Howard and the Utah Jazz make. Many Utahans frown upon the consumption of alcoholic beverages, and Howard prefers another sort of recreational activity.
Kwame Brown – Everything
Brown might as well leave everything he owns in the city of his choice and live out of a suitcase in San Francisco. The big man has been well traveled – five teams in the last five seasons – and it’s doubtful his stay with the Warriors will be much longer than any other.
Chauncey Billups – Ring
Billups has a chance to reinvent his game this season in L.A. The aging guard is coming off his worst season in years and will slide over to the 2-guard spot now that he’s playing alongside Chris Paul. Playing without the ball in his hands will be new for Billups, but if he has a good attitude and can make spot-up jumpers, he’s a perfect fit for the young Clippers. Billups has always been at his best when he has a chip on his shoulder. This season he should prove that he can play another position and that he’s hungry to get a second ring.
