L ast week THD’s Kevin Burke wondered if Shaq’s new tell all book may be hurting his legacy. This week the Miami Heat’s Pat Riley, who was one of the targets of Shaq’s attacks in his new book ‘Shaq Uncut’, wondered the same. He spoke a bit about the book, what it means to leave the game gracefully, and how he would react to Shaq next time he saw him.
“Shaq is a person that, he’s really bigger than life,” Riley said. “He’s been allowed to get away with this his whole career. And it doesn’t surprise me. It really doesn’t bother me, because I know where it’s coming from. It really has a lot to do with a person’s character. You know, when you leave the sport, in some way, shape or form, or at least when I leave it, I hope I leave it with some dignity. And I don’t think he’s showing that right now to any of the people he’s disparaging in the book, including me, plus dozens of others. So I’m wishing him a happy Thanksgiving. If I saw Shaq walk in here today and he came up here, I’d give him a big hug. Because I know it was a lot better than what he was talking about, because we had some great times, with winning that championship.”
