Syracuse Adds Top 50 Big Man Jerami Grant For 2012

September 20, 2011 – Allen Moll

It seems that Coach Boeheim and staff just has a way of getting commitments from some of the nation’s best big men. From Rony Seikaly, to Derrick Coleman, and more recently Fab Melo and Rakeem Christmas, the Syracuse Orange have always had the services of a dominating big man.

Coach Boeheim ensured just that heading towards the 2012 season as he secured a commitment from Top 50 rated rising senior PF Jerami Grant. For those of you that remember the name Grant, yes, Jerami is the son of former NBA player Harvey Grant and nephew to 4 time World Champion Horace Grant.

The Grants are undoubtedly a basketball family as Jerami’s brother Jerai just graduated from Clemson while his other brother Jerian is in his 2nd year at Notre Dame. Jerian’s obvious influence had Jerami in the end chosing between ND and Syracuse but ultimately chose the Orange because of their style of play and history of outstanding big men coming through the program.

The 6‘8 and 200lb Jerami played for the famed DC based Team Takeover AAU squad this Summer and starred alongside friend and recent Pittsburgh commit James Robinson, an outstanding PG in the 2012 Class, on the legendary DeMatha HS squad in Hyattsville, MD.

Grant is described as being blessed with a long and athletic body with outstanding athletic ability. He is an above average finisher who thrives in the painted area but has worked hard this past Summer on expanding his range out to 15-20 feet. As an outstanding athlete, Grant should thrive in Syracuse’s vaunted 2-3 zone as he undoubtedly excels in the open court transition game after a rebound or blocked shot.

Jerami Grant is Coach Boeheim’s first commitment in the 2012 Class. The Cuse have also offered a scholly to imposing big man DeJuan Coleman and Tyler Cavanaugh in the senior class.
