Is Stan Van Gundy the New Point Guard for the Magic?

August 4, 2011 – Kevin Burke

When you think of Orlando Magic head coach, Stan Van Gundy, certain things come to mind. Maybe words like fiery, intense and boisterous. He’s most noted for his voice, which reaches an unusual octave once he gets going. That has often times caused Dwight Howard to playfully mock him. But the last thing that probably comes to your mind is dribbling. Yesterday, Van Gundy was at the Orlando Magic Youth Basketball Camp where was talking to youngsters about ball handling. However, he did more than talk. He decided to show them.

I’m as shocked as you are. Did you catch the “oohs and aahs” during the video from others one hand who got a kick out of it? The Magic are in a state of flux right now. Despite being a perennial playoff team, Dwight Howard has said that he will test free agency next summer, because he doesn’t feel this team can get over the hump as currently constituted. I have an idea: make Van Gundy your new starting PG. That would certainly shake things up. But, I can’t wait to see Dwight Howard’s reaction to watching this clip.
