‘Basketball Talk, The Way it Should Be’ is the Hoops Fix You Need

July 1, 2011 – Kevin Burke

Just because the NBA and fans are going through a very public breakup, doesn’t mean you still can’t get your basketball fix. Our friends, Audley Stephenson and Dave Mendonca collaborated with one another a few years back and created an NBA talk show, aptly named “The Breakdown with Dave and Audley.” Throughout the existence of their show, they have had many guests on their program, each providing their own unique view and perspective on the game of basketball. Therefore, they’ve decided to do the only logical thing: create a quote book which captures some of the best sound bytes from their guests over the years.

Basketball Talk, The Way It Should Be: A Baller and Celebrity Quote Book is a fun read that features hilarious, outrageous and inspiring quotes from past guests including Gary Payton, Spud Webb, Rick Barry, Blake Griffin and Vivica A. Fox just to name a few. I read the book and you’ll be surprised as to the names that appear, but even more so, with what they had to say. In addition, Jaleel White (yes, Steve Urkel), who is big time hoops fan, provided the foreword. Seriously, does it get any better than that? Hear what former teammates think about LeBron James. Hear first hand what made the Gary Payton and Shawn Kemp duo so successful. And that’s just the beginning.

Aside from wanting to provide NBA fans with a quote book from high profile figures in the sport and entertainment, Dave and Audley had other, more important reasons for releasing this book. A portion of the proceeds from the book will go to two charities very near and dear to each of them, Epilepsy Halton Peel Hamilton and ErinoakKids Foundation. It was only right for these two to involve these charities:

Dave explains, “I had epilepsy as a kid. It was a tough period of my life, so the fact we can help EHPH by giving them some money to enhance the quality of lives of people with seizure disorders, through their support services, is an honour.”

In 2008, Audley and his wife received the diagnosis that their daughter was on the autism spectrum, so he understands the value of charities like the ErinkoakKids Foundation:

“It’s places like Erinoak that really help kids and families deal with life’s bumps and persevere. I admire how they assist children and youth with physical, developmental and communication disabilities to achieve great levels of independence, health and well-being.”

But as I said, the book is great and is an easy read. Dave and Audley were nice enough to include a couple of sample chapters to give you a sense of what it’s all about. But that doesn’t begin to tell the story, so you can get a full copy of the book by visiting TheBreakdownBook.com. This quote book won’t disappoint and will surely provide the hoops fix that I know you need.
